‘The Paper’s Domhnall Gleeson Praises Steve Carell, John Krasinski

With his upcoming debut in the Peacock spin-off series The Paper, Domhnall Gleeson had some support from a few OG The Office stars.

At the premiere of their new movie Fountain of Youth, now in theaters, Gleeson said co-star John Krasinski “was wonderful” when it came to giving him advice on joining the show, which comes to Peacock in September.

“I mean, his big advice that he gave me was to do it,” Gleeson told People. “And the same with Steve Carell, another just wonderful actor who I’d worked with before. And their advice was, if it’s Greg Daniels, you should do it because getting to work with him is a treat that not many people get to have.”

Daniels created the NBC mockumentary series The Office, which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013, featuring Carell and Krasinski among its ensemble portraying the employees of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

In The Paper, the same documentary crew follows Gleeson as the eager publisher of The Truth Teller, a struggling Toledo, Ohio newspaper, which he tries to revive with the help of volunteer reporters.

Gleeson said of the show, “I’m so happy I did it because I think we have something really lovely. So I’m thrilled with it.”

“I mean, I like to think I would’ve got there on my own anyway, but certainly if [John] and Steve had been like, ‘Don’t do it, it’s a nightmare,’ I would’ve hightailed it, but they could not have been more positive about it, and I’m delighted I listened to them,” he added.

After starring together in the 2022 Hulu limited series The Patient, Carell praised Gleeson as “an excellent actor.”
