Now that Diwali has come and gone and I’ve traded my tees for chunky sweaters, I’m humbly and officially declaring that we are in the thick of the holiday season. Along with festive decor, comfort food, and cheesy movies, one of the events I look forward to most is the launch of Oprah’s Favorite Things List, which came out on November 1 this year. As a lover of Oprah Winfrey, fashion, travel, and lounging, I was pleasantly surprised to see all my foremost passions manifest in one item that I am already predicting to be one of my holy grail essentials of the holiday season and 2025: the Softies Solid Marshmallow V-neck Lounge Set.

Softies didn’t just make its debut on Oprah’s Favorite Things 2024 scene this month, though. The brand is a longtime favorite of Winfrey’s, and has been featured on her lists for many years. “Ooh, I love Softies — maybe you know that from how often I pick them?” she said, adding that this set is “the best for lounging around.” And, in my opinion, Oprah is always right.

Made with the brand’s signature plush, marshmallow-soft fabric, the stretchy two-piece set features a V-neck top and wide-leg drawstring pants. The slightly cropped fit on the pants is key for me when I travel, lest I find myself in an airplane bathroom with a not-so-clean floor (we’ve all been there). 

The set can easily be styled up, too. I can see myself pairing the top with a black mini skirt and knee-high boots to feel cozy and stylish at a holiday party, or topping the pants with a fitted turtleneck and oversized blazer for a day of sightseeing.

With a 4.8-star rating, I look forward to gifting one of these sets to my mom and sister for the holidays, too. If these ’fits are good enough for Oprah, there’s no reason I can’t earn the “Gift Giver of the Year” award, right?

One reviewer, who loves how soft yet lightweight this feels, said they wear this for night in or while working from home, but they “even pair the top with some jeans or leggings for a quick run to the store for more snacks.” Another said this is a “must-have,” and that it is “easily the softest thing” they own, while a third shopper called these “pure luxury,” and that they “feel like wrapping up in the coziest blanket, but with the style and elegance of a high-end loungewear piece.”

The set comes in several “luxurious colors,” and while you can choose from seven neutral shades and jewel tones, I’m partial to the beigy coco color, which I look forward to styling with some black loafers and a black blanket scarf for the 8- and 15-hour-long flights I have planned to see family over the next couple of months.
