Beloved travel expert and TV personality Rick Steves is supporting Kamala Harris for president.
Steves, known for his long-standing public television show โRick Steves’ Europe,โ initially touted the โstabilityโ a Harris presidency would bring in a September post โย saying he longs โfor the day when we can return to healthy and principled partisan debates,โ but added this election is different.ย
โAs a traveler, Iโm both a proud American and a citizen of the world, and Iโve got a few thoughts for this coming election: the world needs not the chaos of Trump, but the stability of Kamala Harris. It needs American leadership within the family of nations as we effectively confront the challenges of the future,โ Steves said in his first video posted to X. โThatโs why Iโm voting blue and I hope you will too.โ
Steves, followed his initial endorsement with a new video posted a video from Berlin on Tuesday talking about fascism and Adolf Hitlerโs history of arresting political opponents after taking power in Germany in the 1930s. Last year, former President Donald Trump vowed he wouldnโt be a dictator if reelected โother than day one,โ according to The Associated Press.
โMany donโt realize that the first people Hitler sent to his concentration camps werenโt everyday Jewish citizens, but his political opponents,โ Steves wrote in a post on X. โSo, when Trump rants about retribution, locking up his opponents, and giving them โvery long sentences,โ I canโt help but take him seriouslyโฆ because history teaches us that is what fascist dictators do during their โDay Oneโ period to consolidate their power.โ
Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, and voters can find their designated polling location as well as potential early voting polling locations through Vote.org.
Steves recently revealed his prostate cancer diagnoses and said in early October he had a successful surgery.
