Michael Che brought out the Jurassic World Rebirth star during the “Weekend Update” segment to jokingly apologize for his out-of-pocket “roast beef” joke during the final episode of SNL‘s 50th season.
If you didn’t know, at the end of the season, “Weekend Update” hosts Colin Jost and Michael read never-before-seen jokes, written for each other, that always push boundaries and/or cross a line.
Last year, Colin read a joke written by Michael that surprisingly used his wife, Scarlett, as the punchline. “Costco has removed the roast beef sandwich from its menu. But I ain’t trippin’. I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid,” Colin said.
Scarlett said how she felt in a March 2025 InStyle interview. “It was so vulgar. I just can’t believe that they went there. I was like — it was so gross. It was really gross.” Laughing, she added, “And, like, old-school gross.”
In a May 2025 Vanity Fair profile, Scarlett said, “I had all these cameras on me. I didn’t expect the setup to be like that. I was like, ‘Wow, you really are seventh-, eighth-grade boys…’ I feel like it’s almost my responsibility to come up with some way to burn Michael back. Retaliation, I’d say, should be expected.”
With Scarlett hosting the May 17th SNL episode, she got her revenge when Michael was set up with an embarrassing apology. “Before I tell another joke, I wanna take this opportunity to apologize to someone I hurt, Scarlett, can you come out here?”
After apologizing, the Colin-written joke apology had Michael explain he was acting out. “The fact is I was just lashing out because I’m jealous. I’ve never even seen a human vagina,” he said. “And notice I said ‘human,’ because I once spent the summer on a farm.”
It didn’t stop there. Michael joked that he was also “sorry” to Colin because “I owe you everything.”
Scarlett’s revenge and her interaction with Colin and Michael had the internet in stitches. Here’s what people are saying about the segment:
One person wrote, “I’ve never laughed harder in my entire life!!!! The greatest duo in the history of TVI SNL legends!”
This person pointed out that, “Scar jo just shaking her head, amazed at the boyish banter is hilarious.”
“I think this is the craziest one I’ve ever seen tbh. My jaw was dropped the entire time. Absolutely incredible,” someone else wrote.
One fan said that “Nothing on SNL will ever beat the joke swaps.”
Another fan suggested it was “classic” to have Scarlett be part of the segment. “The way Colin made sure to annunciate that Golden State joke. Lol. and the way Scarlett was sitting there trying her best not to laugh. Lol. Classic man,” they wrote.
“Scarlet trying to hold it together is priceless,” somebody else added.
And finally, the internet really loved the joke apology that Colin wrote for Michael to read. “This is Colin’s best material he’s written for Che no question.”
