Local school closures due to Helene

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – School districts are monitoring the potential local impacts of Helene.

Here is a list of school updates so far:

Appling County Schools

District schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

Bacon County School District

District schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

Beaufort County Schools

All afterschool activities (including employee EPIC childcare) will be canceled Thursday. Schools will have remote learning on Friday.

Bethesda Academy

Classes at Bethesda Academy will not be in session Friday. Students will participate in an e-learning day on Monday. 

Bryan County Schools

Bryan County schools will dismiss two hours early on Thursday. All after-school programs and extracurricular activities have been canceled.

All absences on Thursday will be excused.

All schools and offices will be closed on Friday.

Bulloch County

Bulloch County Schools will have a half-day on Thursday, September 26, and will be closed on Friday, September 27.

The Board of Education’s work session on Thursday is also canceled.

Bulloch Academy

Bulloch Academy will cancel ALL activities at 5 p.m. Thursday, including after-school care.  BA will be closed Friday in compliance with this recommendation.

Calvary Day School

Thursday, school officials will be closing campus at 4 p.m., and all after-school activities are canceled. This includes the closure of the Early Learning Center and the Calvary After-School Program at 4 p.m.

A decision on campus operations for Friday is forthcoming.

College of Coastal Georgia

The College of Coastal Georgia will shift all classes online on Thursday. The College will have reduced operations for faculty and staff. The college will continue reduced operations at both the Brunswick campus and Camden Center on Friday, September 27.

Campus operations will resume as normal on Saturday, September 28, and classes will resume on Monday, September 30.

Colleton County

Early dismissal on Thursday for all schools starting at 10:40 a.m. Delayed schedule Friday starting at 9 a.m. The schedule can be viewed on the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office’s X account.

Effingham County Schools

Students will be released from school two hours early on Thursday. All schools will be closed on Friday.

Evans County Charter School System

ECCSS schools and offices will close early on Thursday and close on Friday. Visit here for more information on dismissal times.

First Christian Academy

First Christian Academy of Richmond Hill will be closed on Thursday.

They will be closed Friday.

Georgia Southern University

Georgia Southern will reduce operations on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. due to Hurricane Helene.

Only essential personnel should be on campus beginning Thursday, Sept. 26, at 5 p.m. The University will return to normal operations once an “all clear” is issued, expected on Friday, Sept. 27.

Glynn County

Glynn County Schools will close Friday and re-open Monday as scheduled.

Hampton County School District

Schools will have an early release on Thursday on their normal early release schedule.

On Friday, schools will operate on a one-hour delay for students and staff. Bus students will be picked up 1 hour later and schools will be open for car riders one hour later than normal.

Jasper County Schools

JCSD will have an eLearning and remote workday on Friday, September 27, 2024.  All district buildings will be closed.

Extracurricular activities on Friday evening will remain as scheduled as the storm is forecasted to pass by this time. If conditions change, a communication will be sent promptly.

Jeff Davis County Schools

Jeff Davis schools will be canceled for staff and students on Thursday and Friday. They anticipate a return to the classroom on Monday, Sept. 30.

Liberty County Schools

District schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday to include all after-school activities.

LifeSpring Christian Academy 

LifeSpring Christian Academy will dismiss at noon on Thursday and be closed on Friday.

Long County Schools

Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday to include all after-school activities.

Memorial Day School and School Childcare Center

Memorial Day School and Memorial Day School Childcare Center will be closed Friday.

Ogeechee Technical College

Out of an abundance of caution, the campus will close at noon on Thursday.

Savannah-Chatham County Public School System

SCCPSS students will be dismissed early on Thursday and learn remotely on Friday. Visit here for more information.

Savannah Legacy Academy

The Academy will close early on Thursday at noon and remain closed on Friday.

Savannah Christian Preparatory School

The SCPS campus will be closed on Friday. All extracurricular activities will be rescheduled.

Screven County School System

Due to impending weather, the Screven County School System will be closed Friday.

Tattnall County Schools

Tattnall County will close all schools on Thursday with a decision on Friday’s schedule to be made by 2:00 p.m. Thursday.

Technical College of the Lowcountry

All in-person/on-campus classes at the TCL Beaufort, New River and Culinary Institute of the South campuses are cancelled from 5 p.m. Thursday through Friday. MCAS classes will be held virtually.

The TCL Hampton Campus Mungin Center will close at 2 p.m., Thursday through the weekend. All virtual/online classes will be held as scheduled during this time as internet access allows.

Urban Christian Academy and Daycare

Both schools will be closed Thursday and Friday due to the inclement weather.

Wayne County Schools

Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday and all extracurricular activities for those days will be postponed.
