Former President Donald Trump delivers remarks in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Former President Donald Trump visited Savannah on Tuesday to deliver remarks at the Johnny Mercer Theatre.

Long lines of supporters formed downtown waiting to see the Republican presidential nominee.

Trump’s visit comes on the heels of Vice President Kamala Harris’ rally in the Hostess City. Her campaign released the following statement on his visit:

“Donald Trump is coming to Georgia as reports are uncovering the horrific legacy he left behind: women denied care and losing their lives because of the Trump Abortion Bans he calls a ‘beautiful thing to watch.’ Georgians are fighting back and we’re ready to elect the only candidate in this race who will stand up for our freedom: Vice President Harris.”

Trump did not mention abortion policies during his speech.

He discussed his presidential campaign, the border and the assassination attempts against him, but as the event was billed, he did focus on business.

The former president said he would push plans to further deepen the Savannah River, working with Gov. Brian Kemp and the Army Corps of Engineers.

“With a world-class port and a world-class workforce, this city will soon become one of the premier export hubs anywhere on Earth,” Trump said.

He’s calling for a “manufacturing renaissance,” including what he calls a “Made-in-America tax rate.”

“But now, we’re cutting the business tax from 21% to 15% which makes us the most competitive tax anywhere on the planet but only for those who make their product in the U.S.A.,” he said. “See? That’s an incentive.”

Trump said under his leadership, the country would attract “energy-hungry industries” bringing in “millions and millions” of blue-collar jobs.

“And we will set up special zones of federal land,” he added, “with ultra-low taxes and regulations for American producers. These will be ideal spots for relocating entire industries that we’ve taken in from other countries. They’re going to come in at levels that nobody has ever seen before.”

Savannah won’t be the only Peach State city Trump will focus on this week.

His running mate, Sen. JD Vance, will be bringing a Get Out the Vote Rally in Flowery Branch, located over 40 miles north of Atlanta.

According to a poll published on Monday by The New York Times and Siena College, Trump is ahead of Harris in Georgia.

He maintained a 4-point lead, 49 percent to 45 percent, among likely voters in Georgia.
