EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) โ€” The successful coaching career of Marion Dingle was celebrated in Effingham County over the weekend.

Dingle began coaching high school basketball in 1962 at Springfield Central High. There he led the boys’ team to a State Championship.

In 1967, and the girls’ team to back-to-back state titles in 1962 And 1963.

He went on to coach Effingham County High School for 10 seasons after the county’s schools were integrated.

This weekend there was a celebration in his honor at Springfield, and Dingle said his players were his motivation for coaching.

“I didn’t know it at the time, but it was the kids that kept me there,” he said. “They were very good in all sports, and they listened.”

On Sunday, former players, friends, and family members gathered at Central High School on the court Dingle used to coach at. They shared stories and reconnected while honoring Dingle for the impact he has made on many lives.
