Clyburn Remark On President Biden Offering Clemency and Pardons For Folks Convicted Of Non-Violent Crimes

WASHINGTON, DC – Lately, U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn (SC-06) immune refer to observation on President Joe Biden providing clemency for just about 1,500 folks in house confinement and pardons for 39 folks convicted of non-violent crimes. “I applaud President Biden for pardoning 39 people with non-violent convictions and commuting even more,” stated Congressman James E. Clyburn. “This grant of clemency and restoration of rights is a significant step forward. Many people of color and moderate means have been disproportionately burdened by systemic injustices and clemency is a potent tool in the President’s toolbox to remedy some faults in our legal system. We have a leader in President Biden who is committed to tackling these injustices and has done that work in earnest.”

In November, Congressman Clyburn co-led a letter along Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) and Congresswoman Mary Homosexual Scanlon (PA-05) to President Biden urging him to importance his govt clemency energy within the ultimate months of his presidency to reunite households, deal with longstanding injustices in our felony machine, and poised our people at the trail towards finishing pile incarceration. Of their letter to President Biden, the lawmakers praised the President’s efforts to build a good and simply legal felony machine via pardoning 11 family convicted of easy marijuana ownership.
