Benedictine wins three straight after 0-2 start

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Benedictine Military School has bounced back from an 0-2 start and rallied to win its last three with one of the toughest schedules in the country.

“I think we’ve just learned not to quit,” said Benedictine linebacker Larson Little. “You start 0-2 People usually want to quit. People want to lose faith in the team. But you find 11 guys that believe in each other, you’re not going to get down on each other.”

The last time Benedictine started 0-2 was back in 2021. That team went on to win 13 straight games to claim the Class AAAA state title.

“After those two losses, we don’t plan to lose another one,” said Little. “That’s still our mindset. We’re planning on going to win the whole thing.”

Benedictine Head Coach Danny Britt said the hard schedule has drastically improved the team.

“We knew we were playing a very tough schedule and that would be a possibility,” said Britt. “everything is an experience. If we don’t win it’s not the end of the world, you keep going, get better, and get ready for the next week.”

The Cadets are also one of the many teams in the area dealing with schedule changes after the recent hurricanes.

“I think there’s just been so much already that nothing’s gonna phase them,” said Britt. “They’re like coach tell us who we play and we’ll go out and be the best we can be with it.”

The team has stayed ready to play despite the uncertainty.

“We just kind of roll with the punches,” said Little. “We know a lot of storms are gonna be coming in so it’s next opponent up.”

This week’s opponent is a team that Benedictine has had several battles with over the years, Ware County.

“It turned into a very good rivalry for us,” said Britt. “Now that they’re in the region it’s more important that it’s ever been, we’re fortunate we get to play them at home.”

This is a game that is expected to draw plenty of fans from both sides.

“It’s gonna be big, all the media is gonna be there and it will probably be one of the biggest games in the state, so we’re gonna be ready for sure,” said Benedictine offensive guard Raphael Scroggins.

Benedictine is set host Ware County at Memorial Stadium for the Cadets Homecoming Friday at 7:30 p.m.
