Historically Black Fisk University Is on The Rise Once Again Fisk University is one of several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) making gains in enrollment. The Covid-19 pandemic led to enrollment decreases and financial difficulties for HBCUs. These gains in enrollment are due to an appreciation of the contributions HBCUs made to black culture. This appreciation is partly due to racial tension arising from a divisiveness in the nation’s politics. Tennessee State University traveling to the homecoming game of Howard University has been one of the more anticipated HBCU games of the season.Unfortunately for fans of the Tennessee State University Aristocrat of Bands, the marching band will not be making the trip.The AOB posted a letter stating that the band would not be attending Howard University homecoming, nor would it travel to a game against Ohio Valley Conference-Big South foe Lindenwood. In February, the DeKalb School Board voted to remove a “modernization” of Druid Hills High School from a list of proposed school repair and renovation projects sent to the Georgia Department of Education. Students — and their parents — have been asking the district to reverse that decision. It looked as if the school district was prepared to proceed without including Druid Hills High on the list, but then students at the high school produced a video detailing the health and safety problems at the school.
