How our local area teams fared on Day 1 of the GHSA softball tournament

SAVANNAH, Ga, (WSAV) — Several areas teams advanced to Columbus for the quarterfinals in their respective classifications. Below is a recap of how they fared.

In Class 3A-A Private, Savannah Christian defeated Wesleyan, 4-2. The Lady Raiders face Hebron Christian in the winner’s bracket on Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.

In Class A Division II, Screven County just edged past Georgia Military, 1-0. Screven County will see Lanier County on Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. Lanier County defeated Metter in the opening round, 6-3. Metter will face Georgia Military on Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. in an elimination game. Emanuel County Institute also squeaked out a one-run victory over Irwin County, 7-6. ECI plays Schely County at Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.

In Class A Division I, Toombs County rolled in its quarterfinal matchup. They defeated ACE Charter, 14-0. Toombs County plays Banks County on Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.

In Class AA, Appling County breezed past over Pike County, 6-1. The Pirates and Stephens County will meet in the next round at Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.

In Class AAA, Southeast Bulloch fell to Monroe Area, 5-1. The Lady Yellowjacks face Pickens in a must-win game on Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.

In Class AAAA, Wayne County lost to Kell, 8-5. Wayne County and St. Pius X play in an elimination game on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.

In Class AAAAA, South Effingham fell to Creekview, 10-1. The Mustangs and East Paulding face off in a loser-out game on Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. In the same bracket, Effingham County defeated Seckinger, 6-1. The Rebels face Lassiter on Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.
