Hilton Head Island, S.C. (WSAV) – Two days after a donation drive started, the supplies have started pouring in from people who want to help hurricane victims.

The Island Rec Center began a food and supply drive just two days ago and already their large trailer is more than half full.

First aid, food. personal hygiene items, camping supplies it’s a lot to box up and load in.

David Lohman, Aquatics Director, is from the mountains of Virginia and he says he saw the need and wanted to make a difference and the people here have answered the call.

“I feel like you turn on the news these days,” says Lohman. “All you see is bad, not good anymore.  And even with all the bad,  the only things we can do to affect us people is what we can change. And seeing all the people you know personally know that they can make a difference. They can make a change, and they can go drive to the store and buy and come to us. And then we’re going to drive it up there.”

The Island Rec will be taking donations tonight until 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow until 10 a.m. Then, David will be driving the trailer to Concord, North Carolina to deliver to Operation Food Drop.

He hopes to make this a regular event as long as there is a need.
