SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Georgia Bulldogs suffer their first loss of the season. Georgia Southern gets back in the win column following a loss to Ole Miss. Savannah State struggles to get anything going against Fort Valley State University and the Falcons win on a last-second score.

Here is this week’s review of college and NFL football around Georgia.

#2 Georgia vs #4 Alabama – Georgia’s perfect record for 2024 comes to an end in the fourth game of the season as the Bulldogs lose to Alabama 41-34. The Crimson Tide came out swinging in this one as they posted 21 unanswered points in the first quarter. Georgia QB Carson Beck struggled against the Alabama defense going 27 of 50 for 439 yards and three touchdowns. The senior passer also threw three interceptions on the day. Alabama junior QB and Heisman frontrunner Jalen Milroe threw for 374 yards and two touchdowns. The Bulldogs will look to rebound as they prepare to take on Auburn at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Georgia Southern vs Georgia State – Georgia Southern rebounds after last week’s 52-13 loss to Ole Miss with a 38-21 win over the Georgia State Panthers. The Eagles put up an impressive 498 yards of total offense in the 17-point victory. Quarterback JC French was 24 of 39 for 237 yards and one touchdown. Georgia Southern had a duo of running backs go over 100 yards in the game. Senior RB Jalen White had 22 carries for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Junior RB OJ Arnold finished the game with 11 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Georgia Southern will be off this week before returning on Oct. 12 to take on Marshall University in Statesboro.

Savannah State vs Fort Valley State University – Savannah State could not carry the momentum of last week’s win over to this past Saturday as they fell to Fort Valley State 30-0. The Tigers were only able to total 163 yards of offense on the day. The team struggled on the defensive side of the football as they gave up 436 yards to the Wildcats. Sophomore QB Christian Burks went 12 of 23 for 170 yards and one interception on the day. Savannah State will have their hands full this week as they take on Clark Atlanta University who is 4-0-1 on the year.

Georgia Tech had the week off but will return to action on Oct. 5 against Duke.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints – The Falcons get back to .500 on the year with a 26-24 win over the New Orleans Saints. The Falcons finished the day with 315 yards of total offense. The Falcons only had two touchdowns on the day both came from the defense as they recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass. Quarterback Kirk Cousins had 238 passing yards on the day and threw one interception. Kicker Younghoe Koo went 4 for 4 on the day and kicked a game-winning 58-yard field goal with two seconds left. The Falcons will prepare to take on the 3-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football.
