HAZLEHURST, Ga. (WSAV) – One person is dead in Jeff Davis County as the area sees the impacts of Hurricane Helene.

According to Chief Wasdin with the Jeff Davis County Emergency Management Agency, the incident happened on Bell Telephone Road.

Wasdin said a child was rescued from the scene.

2 reported dead after possible tornado in central Georgia

There have been multiple reports of entrapment in the area, Wasdin said, but at this time, emergency responses are limited due to the severity of the storm.

According to Storm Team 3, nearby Alma saw wind gusts of 100 mph — a Category 1 strength.

This story is developing. Stick with WSAV for updates.
